Marketing Secrets

All signing companies work with a calling list for each area. Your goal is to get moved to the top of that list. This happens naturally when the people in the signing company know you can be trusted, you’re easy to work with, caring, understanding, and willing to go the extra mile to resolve problems with your packages.

The people in the signing company offices already have signing agent friends they’ve made over the phone. They feel comfortable calling them because they know the signer will always take their orders (or try to work it into their schedule), eliminating time and extra calls to other signing agents. They also know the signer/friend does a great job and is dependable, eliminating future headaches. These signer/friends do not take vacations at “end of month” when they’re so desperately needed.

At this point you've probably called around to all of the signing companies and put your name on their list. The question is: Where are you on their list?

Let's first look at how the list works...

Your mission is to get your name moved to the top of the list. To do that you must do your homework, be consistent, and most of all be patient.

first, choose only five signing companies that meet the following criteria:

• They must be in business for a minimum of three years.
• They must be known for paying their signers. When I say this I mean not leaving their signers unpaid and hanging out there for six months. If a payment has been overlooked by mistake, a check should be cut immediately.

Once you've located your “Big 5” (and I mean only 5, not 7 or 10 or 12, get the following information by calling their offices:

• The names of the people in each signing company that call with orders for your area. Usually the people in the office take specific areas (such as the San Francisco area or the Dallas area) and keep them, but in some companies they rotate.
• Their email addresses. Put them in your address book.
• Their toll-free number.

Just a hint: Study the answers to the 100+ questions listed in the FAQ section just in case you're asked some spontaneous questions over the phone.

Now that you've gathered your information it's time to...

Make the calls

• Sit down each morning, Monday through Friday, and call two of your five signing companies.
• Using the pertinent phone numbers, begin calling the person in each company responsible for assigning orders to your area.
• Ask for the person by name.

Get to know them by being chatty and pleasant. Don’t forget that they have a lot to do every morning, so don't take up too much of their time.

Don't panic. I'm going to tell you what to say...

“Hi ______. My name is _______. Do you have a minute? (Don't forget to give them time to respond. If they say no, accept that and politely ask them when might be a better time to call.) I'm new to your company so I just wanted to quickly introduce myself. I work the _________ area and I'm hoping maybe you'll try me out. (Let them respond.) Do you have anything on your desk that I might be able to help with?

(If they say no…) Thanks so much for your time. I'll check back in a day or two. Hope to hear from you soon. Bye-bye.”

(If they say yes, you hit the jackpot. Better have a pen ready to take the information.)

Can't say enough about your web site. I have learned so much from it and have downloaded the documents to have handy for my signings. I have attended the (name omitted) training, but it's not "real world" training. Yours is! Can't thank you enough for all of the time and effort that I know went into it. Keep up the great work.
